Summer School Registration Begins Monday, April 10th

All 9th through 12th grade students who are interested in taking Summer School classes to make up a grade to meet graduation requirements or to fulfill college entrance requirements must register using our online enrollment system.  The online system will be available starting Monday, April 10.  Summer School registration will continue until May 14 at 5 p.m.

Current 8th through 11th graders also have the opportunity to take a Math Summer Bridge course to help prepare them for the course work that they will be studying in the coming school year.  These courses include Pre-Algebra, Pre-Geometry and Pre-Intermediate Algebra.  These courses will be taken for elective credit and the grade issued will be a Pass/No Credit.  This is an excellent opportunity to get a jump start for next year.

Summer School Registration will begin by completing the application online at www.lbschools.net/summer.  After the application is submitted, the student and parent will receive an email with directions for selecting the classes that you plan to take during the summer.  You should receive this email two to three schooldays after the application is submitted.

It's the perfect holiday gift for your student--The Campanile, Wilson's own yearbook.

This year, we reduced the price of the yearbook by $20 to make it more affordable for everyone; however, the $75 price will not last forever.  Prices are due to rise in February so reserve your book right away.

To do so, visit the Balfour website at the web address attached, or stop by the banker's window to pay in cash.

In two weeks Wilson's mighty Drama Department presents the true story of a hate crime that galvanized our country. In 1998 a gay college student was beaten, tortured, and tied to a fence for 18 hours. His name was Matthew Shepard and he died days later. "The Laramie Project" will go on in The PlayHouse Oct. 28,29 and November 4,5. Showtime is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students in high school and middle school. This play is NOT recommended for kids younger than middle school.

• All entries must be emailed, with the subject line “Scary Stories,” to: ptnews@presstelegram. Stories can be submitted in the body of the email, or as a Word attachment; drawings should be submitted in JPEG format, no larger than 5MG in size.
• Stories must be no longer than 650 words.
• Artwork must be original (no tracings)
• Entries will be judged based on imagination, creativity and theme.

HOWDY BRUINS!

SPIRIT WEEK is September 26th - 30th!
Show your Bruin Pride!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH : “Houses Divided, Wilson United”
Wilson‛s mascot and color selection is representative of two prestigious but rivaling universities; the Bruin mascot of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the cardinal and gold colors of the University of Southern California (USC) . While the universities are major rivals, Wilson students do not reflect this aspect because we are united. Students can support this rivalry and the impact it has on Wilson by wearing their favorite UCLA or USC shirt, hat, socks, and other accessories along with khaki bottoms.
**NOTE : Hats must be removed while in class. No tank tops, spaghetti straps or bare midriffs

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH : HAWAIIAN
ALOHA! Show your Hawaiian spirit by wearing your favorite Hawaiian shirt along with khaki bottoms. Flowers and leis are welcome.
**NOTE : No crop tops, tank tops or spaghetti straps.

TIE DYE WORKSHOP at 12:45 on Tuesday, September 27th on the Rally Grass. Bruins bring a white T-shirt or buy an Official Homecoming T-shirt for $10.00

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH : USA
Students may wear any top, bottoms, hat, socks, and accessories that are red, white and blue to show American pride.
**NOTE : You must wear ALL three colors, and no other colors. If you cannot wear all three colors then you must wear Wilson uniform. No crop tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, short shorts, ripped jeans.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH : TYE DYE
Feel groovy while wearing your best tye dye shirt to school with your khaki bottoms. Come to Activities after school Tuesday to tye dye your own Homecoming shirt!
**NOTE : No crop tops, tank tops or spaghetti straps.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH : WILD WILD WEST
Howdy Bruins! Go all out in your best western attire by wearing your favorite denim, plaid, overalls, cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and any other Western gear.

Now is the time for interested 11th and 12th grade students to register for the CSULB Ethnic Studies class during the fall semester.  This class is offered free to Long Beach Unified 11th and 12th grade students.  The class sessions will be held at each of the comprehensive high schools:  Cabrillo, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly and Wilson. All classes will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.  Classes will begin on Sept. 10 and continue until Dec. 17, 2016.   Attendance is extremely important in this college class.   If you are unable to attend more than 90 percent of the class sessions, you might reconsider registering for this class, as your grade will be negatively affected by absences.  If there is enough interest to offer the courses in the afternoon on Saturday or during the week, we will consider offering the courses at those alternative times.  However, we must have enough student interest in order to offer these additional time options.

Enrollment is limited to 70 students per school.  If there are more than 70 students interested per site, students will be randomly selected to participate, with 12th graders given priority.  Students who are not selected will be offered a space at another site where space is available or placed on a waiting list for the spring semester.

Additional classes will be available for students that have already completed a previous Ethnic Studies class/es and wish to take additional ethnic specific courses.  These advanced courses will be offered at sites that generate the most interest.

If you are interested in being considered for the spring semester CSULB Ethnic Studies class please complete the registration form.

The deadline to complete the registration form is Wednesday, Aug 31.

Please note that all notifications for the class will be sent through email.  Please check your email periodically.  Also check your spam/junk email folder, in case it is directed to that folder.

If you have any questions about the program, please see the attached Frequently Asked Questions sheet.  Additional details are provided in this video.  If you need further assistance, please contact Ms.Ortega at cortega@lbschools.net.
