Recommendation Letters
UC, Cal State, and City Colleges do not require nor accept letters of recommendation. Private schools do require letters of recommendation as part of the application process. Many scholarships opportunities also require letters of recommendation.
Tips for Letters of Recommendation
- Email or hand deliver your resume and biographical statement/college essay to your counselor, teacher or administrator at least 3 weeks in advance of the due date. This will give your recommender the time needed to complete your letter.
- Your counselor will also complete the secondary school report and send the school transcript, which is required for private schools.
- Ask for letters of recommendation from people who know you well. It would be a good idea for you to visit your counselor throughout your 4 years at Wilson to give them an opportunity to get to know you, as a letter is required from your counselor for all private schools.
- Write a personal thank you to the person who wrote your letter.Their time is valuable, and it’s a nice way to show your appreciation.
